Avoiding reflection on metal or how you all deal with this?

So, I have been creating a render for brochure. Client’s only 2 expectations are white background and things should be all shiny doesn’t matter if it looks realistic or not. So, I have trying this render but I get this reflection from left part which is again realistic. However, client doesn’t want that to reflect. I have highlighted that portion below. What is your workflow when dealing with mechanical components where all things shiny and glossy. Any inputs would be appreciated. image

One of the solution I did was putting a plane in between and matching that portion with reflection…but again that works well for one of the view.

I think you can render the metal part and the blue part as different layers. That way you should be able to render a layer of the metal part without the blue reflection, and compose it with the blue part layer in post.

Hi Joakim. Thanks for the response. So this would be kind of a limitation as they don’t have any 2d software where they can take this passes and work with them. Any workaround in keyshot itself would be great…

I see. No possibility to use a free image editor either? GIMP for example would probably be capable.

As far as I know you can’t just turn off the reflection from a single object like that in Keyshot, unfortunately.

Hopefully some of the Keyshot gurus here on the forum might be able to give you some workaround or function that I’m not aware of.

But then this again, I guess, will require some learning curve of that 2d software too. Still thanks for this suggestion. I will keep it in backup if there is no other solution!

I think you could try to use a raymask node on the blue material, basically that let you exclude elements from reflection for example.

It’s a bit weird the manual still doesn’t mention RayMask since it’s there for a while and could be handy if clients want unrealistic renders
